Ethiopian Mom Who Worked 30 Years As Maid Overseas To Support Son Is Surprised To See Him As The Pilot On Her Flight Back Home

You have heard of unnerving stories of children who take for granted the fact their parents work abroad for them. They ask their parents to buy them luxuries, unaware of the hardships that those parents go through abroad.

But definitely not for this son of an Ethiopian woman. The woman, a mother who spent 30 years working abroad, is surprised to see her son as the pilot of her flight back to her home country. The pilot might still be little when they last saw each other.

Viral video

In a viral video uploaded on Facebook by People and Saudi, you can see the mother, who worked three decades as a maid in Lebanon to pay for his son’s studies, boarding a plane back to Ethiopia.

Little did she know that the pilot of the plane was her son, now grown-up. When she saw him, she was brought to tears. They hugged and kissed each other for so long, with the son even giving her a bouquet of flowers. What a touching moment.

The video has already been viewed around 4.9 million times as of press time, with around 321,000 reactions.

Touching

According to a 2021 story by the International Organization for Migration, more than 800,000 Ethiopians migrated abroad over the past five years from the time the story was published.

Many Ethiopian workers migrate to work as domestic workers, cleaners, construction workers, or security guards, according to the International Labour Organization

Netizens are touched by the video they saw.

“They both [deserve a good] life,” Frau Leiner commented.
