To gain views and likes, some people would do the unthinkable and controversial. The D’Amelio sisters, Charli and Dixie, are well-loved by their fans, but maybe not this time after they decided to “cosplay” as Walmart cashiers.
Well, to even add to the ire, the women did this to promote their family’s newest popcorn brand, Be Happy Snacks Popcorn, which will exclusively be sold at Walmart and Walmart.com starting this week.
“With Be Happy Snacks, which was inspired by Dixie’s hit song, we are aiming to spark joy and satisfy cravings with fun, unexpected snacks that bring people together,” says Marc D’Amelio, the girls’ dad, and the co-founder and CEO of D’Amelio Brands, which has various products under its wing.
In the videos and photos circulating online, Charli and Dixie are seen wearing Walmart uniforms and scanning their brand’s products at the cashier. Charli was even all smiles while doing her act.
As expected, fans did not like what they saw.
One netizen wrote, “i wish i had enough money to cosplay as a retail worker, so fun being in the working class,” while another commented, “seeing this after working 12hr shifts 4 days a week to barely afford to live.”
On X, a user said that the two, “glorifying a job that is absolutely miserable” and “promoting it as something enjoyable” only fuel the fire of people who are minimum wage workers.
But, Charli and Dixie looked good in those outfits, didn’t they?
