K-Influencer From Egypt Wins Photo Contest In Seoul

South Korea’s flight distance from Egypt is more than 5,500 miles, not to mention that these two countries are from two different continents. But, this distance is not stopping this Egyptian K-influencer from winning a photo contest held in Seoul, the capital city of South Korea.

Bronze medal for this Egyptian K-influencer

Korean culture is spread like a virus across the globe. You’ve got the likes of K-Pop, K-Drama, and K-food. No wonder that influencers of various nationalities will be attracted to the beauty of Korean culture.

One of them is this influencer who hails all the way from Egypt, Thoraia Gamal, who recently received a bronze medal in the Hangeul I Met 2023 photo contest hosted by the National Hangeul Museum in Seoul. She was also honored as the K-influencer of the year by the Korean Culture and Information Service, beating many other K-influencers looking to make a mark in the world with their love for Korean culture.

Mom, child

Her winning photo is that which captures a “heartfelt moment” Gamal shares with her daughter. In the photo, the mother and daughter were wearing hanbok, the traditional clothing in Korea (while Gamal wears a hijab, too, or the head covering worn by Muslim women), and creating a hangeul sentence together. Hangeul is the writing system of the Korean language.

The sentence read, “Every moment I spent with you was amazing.”

Now this statement will be very familiar especially among K-Drama fans. This line is from the K-Drama “Guardian: The Lonely and Great God,” a show that involves concepts like immortal curses, souls, and a grim reaper, among others.

“One line from the drama, ‘Every moment I spent with you was amazing,’ was a simple message that struck a chord with me as a moment of genuine connection and affection,” Gamal said. “I wanted to convey the same sentiment to my daughter, so this led me to explore Hangeul further and enter the contest.”

In her Instagram account, the Egyptian K-influencer said in her profile that she is actually a chef who loves cooking Korean food. She likes posting photos and videos of the Korean dishes she creates.

Korean culture lives on.
