Hawaii is such a stunning destination on the Pacific that tourists from across the globe love to visit. Somehow, it has become a favorite spot for surfers, since this island state is one of the best anywhere in the world for this activity.
People love surfing the Hawaiian waters, and maybe this cat, too.
Surfing cat
The water is a pet peeve for most cats. They’re just afraid of it. But not for Hōkūleʻa, an adorable cat from Hawaii. Not only does he find it great to swim in the ocean, but he also loves surfing and riding the Hawaiian waves.
The story of Hōkūleʻa has been featured in some social media platforms and news media websites around. The cat also has his own Instagram account!
In the video posted on The Dodo’s official YouTube page – The Dodo is a media brand that tells animals’ stories – his parents, Pat and Alessia, said that when the couple catches waves, the cat also joins them.
They described how the feline would sometimes jump off the surfboard, then swim, then go back to the board again.
“Hōkūleʻa loves what Hawaii has to offer. He’s enjoying the surroundings and the motion of the ocean — as we are too,” Pat said.
Was very shy
The couple got Hōkūleʻa from the Humane Society when he was just a kitten. However, he was very shy at first – would hide under the bed and sheets.
Eventually, the cat warmed up to her new parents. He followed them everywhere, to the shower, and to the beach.
His own surfboard
Because of the cat’s love for surfing, Pat decided to build him a custom board. It came from a Boogie Board that has a section that keeps the feline secure while surfing, partially shielded from the wind, giving him a “home base.”
“He’s getting cocky sometimes. And he’s very fast. He’s even faster than me when he swims,” Pat added.
